Cells and Electrodes

Cells for Corrosion Testing and Common Applications

Our standard cells are availabe as sets, complete with cell body, top, Haber Luggin-capillary and counter electrode, or alternatively the customer is asked to put together his own arrangement. Depending on the individual set, these standard cells are widely used for general electrochemical tasks where the electrolyte volume does not rule the cell design.  Our standard cell design is, due to its versatility, used as corrosion testing cell as well as cell for electrochemical surface treatments such as roughening, plating, plating thickness analysis  - just any electrochemical tast where the material of the working electrode is to be analysed, tested, or electrochemically altered.

Base is a 0.5l - or 1l - cell body, made of heat shock resistant glass (DURAN) with or without double wall (heating jacket). The Teflon top is attached to a plane flange, offering different openings for electrodes, gas in- and outlet, thermometers and a reflow - condenser. A special adapter takes up workong electrode shaft and haber - Luggin capillary, in order to allow easy exchange of the working electrode wiothout dismantling the cell. The tip of the Haber Luggin capillary can be positioned exactly to the working electrody.

For working electrode holders and adaptors for corrosion testing, materials characterisation and surface studies, see electrodes.

DNCS 1

DNCS1 got a thick-walled 0,5 l - plane flange beaker without heating jacket.
Set consists of: PTFE - Top with 5 standard sleeve cones, adapter for working electrode shaft and Haber - Luggin - capillary. The small reference electrode is inside the  Haber-Luggin-capillary, avoiding troubles resulting from ruptured liquid junctions. With 2 NS / GL-adapters (NS14/GL18) for easy mounting of thermometers or glass tubes. Including AgCl reference electrode and Ti-Pt counter electrode 6 mm dia x 70 mm.

DNCS 11

Same set, but with double walled cell body (heating jacket)

DNCS 2

DNCS 2 with thick-walled 0,5 l - plane flange beaker without heating jacket,
Set consists of: PTFE - Top with 5 standard sleeve cones, adapter for working electrode shaft and Haber - Luggin - capillary, electrolyte bridge and separate vessel for the reference electrode. With 2 NS / GL-adapters (NS14/GL18) for easy mounting of thermometers or glass tubes. Including AgCl reference electrode (optionally calomel) and Ti-Pt counter electrode 6 mm dia x 70 mm

 DNCS 22

Same set, but with double walled cell body (heating jacket)

CV - Cell

The double-walled CV - cell offers a nominal volume of 100 ml. The Teflon can be adapted to your needs, taking up separate compartments, feed-throughs,  etc. The cell is delivered with a stand, the teflon top allows gas-tight sealing. Optionally, one opening can be equipped with a cock for feeding probes from the environment.

Avesta - Cell

The Avesta cell,(also called Quarfort-cell or flushed-port cell) is specifically used for pitting corrosion testing. It prevents a given electrode from crevice corrosion, so pitting initation and growth can be studied without being tampered by parasitic currents.

The AVESTA - cell for flat electrodes forms an opening of 1 cm², with "crevice-free" border. The border region of the working electrode is kept under fresh distilled water during the tests, while the open face of the electrode faces the test electrolyte. This special cell for pitting potential measurements is designed to avoid crevice corrosion along the border of the working electrode. The double walled cell has a volume of 0.5 l, it is delivered with stand, peristaltic pump, cell, reference electrode, counter electrode and reflow - condenser. Optionally, special fixtures for round working electrodes are available, following the same principle.

Permeation Cell 0.5 L

Permeation cells are used to control electrochemically forced transport of hydrogen through a metal foil or ions through a semi-permeable wall, such as Nafion, Agar or Polypyrrol.

Our permeation cells are made of heat resistant borosilcate glass. The permation foil or membrane is inserted between plane flanges of two half cells, clamped together by a mounting ring set. The membrane potential is picked up by Haber-Luggin-capillaries on each side. The Teflon cell top contains a variety of joints like the top of the standard cells.

Permeation Cell 100 ml

This small permeation cell made of borosilicate glass got two separate counter electrode compartments to keep the bulk electrolytes on either side of the permaeation wall free of undesired products from the counter electrodes. Cleaning compartments between the main compartment and the counter electrode compartment have ports for electrolyte circulation or gas sparkling. They are separated both from counter electrode compartment and main compartment by glas frits.

Field Cell

The FC 1 Field Cell is a special cell for corrosion tests on site. Its small size and the novel shape
gives access to walls at any angle between -110° and +110°. It is ideal for corrosion studies on tanks, reactors and tubes where you cannot cut specimens for laboratory tests.
